Two Schools in One: The Unique Advantage of NES Design
Most schools in Amman are built around a main building with wings and extensions added in time to accommodate their growth. With such an approach, the concept of a total school becomes flawed and compromising. The New English School, however, was designed and constructed in 1986 as a TOTAL School according to strict British education standards and specifications. The built area of 36,000sqm can comfortably accommodate 2400 students with its spacious classrooms, high ceilings and wide hallways. The design also allows the school to be split into two separate schools - North School and South School – each with its own entrance/exit, playgrounds and facilities. With the present enrolment of 1200, the student body can be conveniently split between the two schools – 600 students in each school – while still conforming to the MOE’s protocol of 50% capacity. This gives NES a unique standing among the schools in Jordan.
