Two Schools in One: The Unique Advantage of NES Design

Most schools in Amman are built around a main building with wings and extensions added in time to accommodate their growth. With such an approach, the concept of a total school becomes flawed and compromising. The New English School, however, was designed and constructed in 1986 as a TOTAL School according to strict British education standards and specifications. The built area of 36,000sqm can comfortably accommodate 2400 students with its spacious classrooms, high ceilings and wide hallways. The design also allows the school to be split into two separate schools - North School and South School – each with its own entrance/exit, playgrounds and facilities. With the present enrolment of 1200, the student body can be conveniently split between the two schools – 600 students in each school – while still conforming to the MOE’s protocol of 50% capacity. This gives NES a unique standing among the schools in Jordan.

Safeguarding the well-being of our children has always been of prime concern to us long before the chaos and fears resulting from the spread of COVID-19. Learning, we believe, is pointless if the school environment is not conducive to the wellness of the students.

  • This Guide presents the actionable steps and extra measures we have taken to minimize the risks of the virus through early detection and control. Highlights of these measures are:
  • Sterilizing the school’s premises, classrooms and facilities daily after the end of the school day and as often as required during the day.
  • Safe distancing will be strictly observed and monitored in hallways, classrooms and playgrounds. In the classroom, students will not be allowed to leave their seats. Only teachers can move around.
  • Sanitizing and wipes will be placed on every student’s desk.
  • Toilet facilities will be cleaned after every use.
  • The student’s body, clothes and bag will be sanitized daily upon entry into the school.
  • School buses will be occupied to half capacity. Sanitizers will be placed in every bus.
  • Students must be wearing their mask during transportation.
  • Cleaners will be fully trained according to covid-19 regulations and protocols.
  • A limited number of parents and visitors are only allowed into the school by scheduled appointments. No walk-ins will be allowed. Every visitor has to give his ID and telephone number at the gate for tracing purposes, if the need arises.
